Femininity and Desire

I was thinking about femininity, desire and all that goes along with both concepts. I began thinking about  symbolic, material objects associated with both concepts. There’s this preconceived notion of what femininity is, how it should look and how one should, possibly, act. Walk into a mall and you are assaulted with it – either the shop windows or the women parading around said mall. Better yet, turn on the television: there’s a jewelry commercial or seven that embodies both concepts of femininity and desire. What of desire? There’s the desire of others and the desire to be wanted. I feel that there is a connection to both ideas in the sense that if you are a woman and you are viewed as “feminine” there is still this role you are to fill – and if you don’t, are you going to be desired? are you desirable?
