From the studio…

I found this big canvas (30×40 with the big wide stretcher bars) about a year ago and have yet to paint anything worthwhile on it… until now! I’ve been working on some close-up portraits. I took some photographs and enlarged them in photoshop so that only a portion of the person’s face was visible.

Here’s my artist statement regarding the pieces: “The happy images that are pleasant memories until the context is taken out, until examined closely. Are those real smiles?  Does it matter when the happy memory is over and your separated from the person?”

  1. painting half face in and half face out always seems to be mysterious
    what’s happening outside the canvas
    people starts to wonder
