What Once Was.

Photobucket

I used to be envious of those woman that went to Girlspot at Club Gallery. I used to wish I could be cool and go hang out, dance, and get picked up at the local lesbian night. Unfortunately, most of my friends are male, there are few lesbian bars/nights in Providence, and  I can count on one hand how many “ladies nights” I’ve attended. Also, I’ve never been picked up at any of the “ladies nights” I’ve attended, so maybe they are not all I had hoped they would be.

I’m not sure how glamorous Club Gallery was on a Saturday night, but during the week when I would park near it for work, it looked pretty damn creepy even before they began demolishing the building.

After I spent some quality time with the half demolished former night club, I spent some quality time with some vacant properties on Broadway. First stop: Jerothmul B. Barnaby House “Barnaby’s Castle.”

Next stop was: Kendrick-Prentice-Tirocchi House aka “The Wedding Cake House” – not to be confused with the one in in Kennebunk, Maine.

Life and images

A family member had a health scare the other day, but is now fine. It is scary to think my family and people in general are so fragile and mortal. And sometimes we just up and forget! We’re so busy with our petty issues in life… like taking a nap, or Christmas shopping. When in the end, it isn’t going to matter. The people in your life and love are more important than anything. Your petty issues are just that. Your stuff is just that. It’s the people and the experiences with them and love – love, love, love – that is what we should surround and fill our brains with. And fuck those annoying other things that are like fruit flies pestering. Hell, even I get caught up in the stupidity. We all do… it’s time to break free and breathe, enjoy life. Enjoy the people in it! While its here to enjoy.

And… maybe one day I’ll find someone, to have a romantic relationship with, who can at least share that value, and they don’t list “texting” as a hobby (that should be a requirement).

For now I bring you some photos I took this afternoon…

Dismal Day

My afternoon off and I decided to spend part of it at the Bell Gallery. Parking was atrocious and I do not miss parking on the east side of Providence. I ended up parking about a mile away, at the end of Benefit Street. So not only did I look at some weird-ass art, but I also got a healthy inspiring walk. The walk was probably more exciting than the exhibit at the Bell Gallery (weird-ass art not included in the photos).

Today’s Classy Photos…

Photobucket

I found this flyer taped to the inside door of a stall in the ladies room. It amused me greatly. I also totally agree. Nothing is sexier than a bookworm.

This picturesque view was taken with my cellphone camera at an intersection on the Cranston-Providence line.

Views From Parsonage Street

Who says a dead end road overlooking the overgrown parking lots of a former gay club and some rat infested abandoned mill can’t be inspiring?!

Around the east side.

It was a relatively nice, crisp September Sunday, so I headed out, camera in hand and shot a bunch of photos… and got a few that came out decent.

I also checked out the new show at the Bell Gallery, Building Expectation: Past and Present Visions of the Architectural Future. It’s pretty interesting and I highly recommend it. While in the lobby area, some guy, who I think followed me in, mumbled to me about an exhibit upstairs on the second floor. I never went, because I wasn’t sure if he was a creepy stalker or serious about the exhibit… I wasn’t about to follow some strange guy up to the second floor in the elevator to find out. But I did get some great shots of the graffiti in the stairwell after using their unisex bathroom…

Digging-up and digging-in Providence…

Photobucket
It wouldn’t be summer in Rhode Island without detours, ripped up roads and general DOT chaos… On my way to downtown to pick up my artwork in downtown Providence, I passed the DOT tearing down the old 195. I am just so fascinated with them ripping apart the old 195!

Photobucket
Right down the street from where the ripping apart is occurring, they have some lovely detours in the Jewlry District, looks like they’re “building Brown” (all over town). And when I got to Weybosset Street, well there’s one lane, half the road is ripped up and looks like maybe some of the sidewalks too! Happy driving New England! If your planning on going to Providence, just park your car outside the city and walk there you’ll save yourself the hassle and get some exercise.

proud Saturday…

the old 195 overpass

Today was the PRIDE festival in Providence, I brought my water, my gay rainbow watch, my dyke-ish cargo capris, my camera… didn’t take any photos at the short amount of time I spent there.. I guess I was blinded by all the rainbow attire everyone was wearing… or trying to remind myself that most of that eye-candy is taken and so am I. Maybe it was the heat. I foolishly parked several streets away, and it was about eighty degrees. I was kicking myself as I walked by parking lots were the ‘smart’ people had parked. Then, I decided to meet some friends halfway across town —luckily, I wore comfortable shoes for that walk across town. It was worth it, I got to hang out with some friends and I’m sure I burnt off half my body weight walking all over town.

Over-passing by…

Photobucket

I wish I would’ve had the foresight to bring one of my two cameras with me today, but I didn’t. I didn’t think I’d see anything as exciting as a torn down highway on my way to the art festival. I wish that would’ve been included in the art festival ad: come buy local art and check out where they bulldozed a highway down!

Instead, I took these my cellphone.
