Rainy Day…

One of these days the sun will come out… and the old 195 will be torn down. Until then, we can enjoy looking at the overpass that leads to nowhere.

Gloomy May Day.

The past few days have been cold, gloomy, and nothing at all like May. It gives me a perfect excuse to stay inside, read Charlaine Harris novels, and/or paint. I’m currently working, simultaneously, on three paintings (none of which are actually done). And just for the hell of it, I did this fourth one. She makes me think of Barbie, Marylin Monroe, and/or a drag queen:

I did go outside yesterday to do some errands and admire the tree in my parent’s front yard…

the Armory.

The first time I caught a glimpse of this building, I thought maybe it was a church…because they always look like castles to Jesus. I figured there was no way in hell there was an actual castle on Dexter St. in Providence, so I went with he next logical conclusion: a church. Turns out it’s an armory… which is almost like a castle minus a king (so says my girlfriend).

What you find..

How long has my Dad had this Narragansett Ale wooden crate in his garage? For as long as I can remember. How long has it taken me to realize it’s a Narragansett Ale wooden crate? Quite a while.

I wish it wasn’t on a high shelf next to a bunch of crap, because the sides are decorated and you can’t really appreciate the whole thing. My Dad probably just sees it as a thing to put stuff in and not ‘wow it’s an old cool crate!’ My Dad has a bunch of crap in the crate as well… still it’s a pretty weird, but cool find in my parents’ garage where I least expected to find anything interesting…

Once upon a time, my Mother thought it was cool to put this four-foot statue of the Virgin Mary in my parents’ front yard. My friends said things like, “holy shit, that is that the Virgin Mary, or your little sister who was really bad?” Then, one day some guy stopped at my parents house and asked if he could buy it. Allegedly, he had a collection of large, religious statues at his house,  but lacked the Virgin Mary. My Mother feared that someone (like this man) would steal it, and asked my Dad to promptly put Mary in the backyard. (true story.)

Today, on Broadway, I found a store, whose name I didn’t catch, that apparently sells everything from the Virgin Mary (in a bathtub) to Buddha. It made me think of my parents’ four foot Virgin Mary. I really enjoy the bars on the windows… it’s like they’re in jail.

One of these things does not belong… it it Jesus, the Buddha or the red light, I’m not sure:

Saturday Blues.

My HP printer has decided to not print photos and barely prints artwork. This wouldn’t be an issue if I were not in the process of printing out a teacher portfolio for school, and of course it’s due this coming week. I’m pretty sure HP owes me a better printer, like one that isn’t theirs. And my Friday night that I wasted fighting the printer. The printer won for now… unless I push it out the window that it sits in front of – then I win.

I also took some lovely photos before the printer madness… like this one of my cat Felix looking very majestic:

My gf made these origami flowers that have been hanging out in the back window of my car. I had to take them out now that the weather is warmer and I put the windows down. Turns out paper catches in the wind.

Today’s photo

To recap this project: I thought to myself, what could I do, that I’d have time to do throughout the semester between work and school? Photos. But what if I took images, digitally of my environment, my surroundings and how they change and don’t change from day to day. Images of things I see everyday, maybe the beauty that is overlooked in seeing the same thing every single day.

It’s part journal, part hidden beauty of one’s surroundings.

Due to my time constraints I will post this once or twice a week opposed to daily.

My computer and I have been very close lately.

Also, I did this drawing like a week or so ago…(I got off of the computer!) maybe, I’ll even get around to painting it!

project-ed out.

It’s coming up on finals week at school. And we know what that means, I’m going to be chained to the computer trying to get through the pile of work sitting next to my computer. It’s that time of year for professors to spring upon us unsuspecting students, a huge project that is due… in two weeks — or something like that.

In this photo, note the dust that I haven’t had time to get rid of… thankfully you can’t see my carpet that I haven’t vacuumed in two weeks…

And look I even went outside at one point this week (maybe I should’ve been dusting and cleaning)…

I love you creepy, weird house…

This creepy, haunted-house-like structure is located on Broadway in Providence. I kind of love it, boarded up windows (which you can’t see in my photos) and all! The huge chain-link fence around it makes me think that it is probably abandoned, super cheap, and trashed inside.
